New and Announcements / Communique Module
« on: March 07, 2020, 10:07:23 PM »
Dear fellow VAM users,

I have created a Communique module. A dedicated staffmember can go to the Pilot Actions menu and there he or she can press the Communique icon.
A subject and message can be entered and then after pressed on the send button, all pilots and stuff receive the communique per email.

if you are interested in this module, then PM me with your e-mail and I will send it to you.

The problem is with this forum that I get 406 errors while trying to post the module to the forum.

Greetings from dohavik.

I was wondering if people have a suggestion or
code snippets on how to show airline logos at
Live flights and flight statistics. It would be awesome if
someone could share that with us on the forum.

In this moment VAM allows pilots to transfer hours from former airlines in the transferred hours column in the gvauser table INT (11).
Disadvantage of this is that only complete hours can be transferred. By modifying the gvausers table and put the transferred hours column at DECIMAL (11,2), the flight hours on the minute
accurate can be transferred.

It might be an idea to update this with the upcoming version of VAM.

Users of VAM who do not want to wait for the next update can do this themselves by:
1. Go to phpMyAdmin at the webserver
2. Go to the gvausers table
3. scroll down to column 26 saying transferred_hours
4. press change
5. Type goes from INT to DECIMAL
6. Length/Values goes from 11 to 11,2

Then save it and it works like a charm.
 ;)

Ideas for the following version:

When Simacars is turned on and the flight  is progressing the pilot needs to press a key or solve a small sum in order to continue without critical warnings.
The airline itself can put this timer in (varying from  10 - 60 minutes).
The sum or key must be pressed within a normal amount of time (3 minutes). If the pilot fails, a critical error is being generated and a counter starts to run.

That way it is visible if a pilot is actually flying or non flying flights. I see the tendency with people to fly long haul flights and then after take off, walk away and then return and do
the landing and make it count as flying time.

My second idea is that the flights being made are put first in a temporarily database and when they are verified, they will be placed in the storage database.
That way if a pirep is rejected for whatever reason, the data is not polluting the database.

Bug reports / A problem in plane_info_public.php
« on: December 07, 2018, 08:01:33 AM »
When I was looking for some data in my VAM airline I stumbled upon the following inconsistency:
My pilot logbook says that I did 2 flights WA1545 and WA1546. I can find it on page:/vam/index.php?page=pilot_details&pilot_id=XX (XX for number.)

When I look then at the airplane log, I see the following in the column Flight:
Flights are not connected to a different flightnumber namely AF1733 and AF1755.
I can find this on page: /vam/index.php?page=plane_info_public&registry_id=PH-XXX

In order to keep the airline running, I need to change my timetable (I alter fleets.sql, fleettype_routes.sql and routes.sql).
Now is the inconsistency based on the following:
Since the flights are Regular Simacars flights, I can find in the VAMPIREPS table in the database these flights:
Callsign: WA1545 and flight: WA1545, but the route_id states: 1137

Looking at the ROUTES table I find at route_id: 1137 the following flight: AF1733.

It means that the VAMPIREPS used the route_id column to connect to the ROUTES route_id to get the Flight. That is how this inconsistency happens.

Unaltered it means that you can only enter one time a timetable and not renew it anymore (unless you add routes after).

How it is now: VAMPIREPS -> route_id -> ROUTES -> route_id -> Flight
How it should be: VAMPIREPS -> flight -> ROUTES -> flightt

I also know the file that needs to be altered is: plane_info_public.php

Now I come with a solution, but I like to know from people that are better in PHP how I can get this connection.
So not: VAMPIREPS -> route_id -> ROUTES -> route_id -> Flight
But: VAMPIREPS -> flight -> ROUTES -> flight.

If someone knows php how to get this done, please let me know :)

Recently Google decided to make it's Google Map API a new milkcow. In order to have a good working map, we need to implement a new Google API and connect it to a creditcard.

Developers have already complained about the 1400% increase in price.

Perhaps it is a good and cost saving idea to replace the Google map option for an Openlayers map option. Openlayers is open source.

Bug reports / Financial pirep report issue
« on: December 17, 2017, 11:55:59 PM »
When a pilot has finished a flight the admin can verify the flight.
If the admin accepts the flight without pressing i to verify the flight -> pilot financial report is created

If admin press i first to verify flight and then accepts the flight -> pilot financial report is not made. Just the pilot salary appears and nothing else

I have a suggestion for the next version of VAM.
It happens frequently that people fly routes with different type of aircraft. So they fly with a 747 while the route is just for a 787 with Simacars.
VAM offers right now for the pirep checker to alter the VAMPIREP its following parameters:
Flightdata, Callsign, Departure, Arrival, Flight Duration, Distance, Route, Network, Charter, Comments, Validated, Validator Comments.

My suggestion is to add also the following options:
Tailnumber, Aircraft Type

This way no errors in the database occur (I hope)..because right now, I need to alter stuff in the database, while this can be easily done in the VAM website part.

I do have a number of VA's that run on VAM. It works for me like a charm.
Some pilots send manual pireps...they do this via the Pilot Actions -> Manual Pirep.
Then what happens is their pirep is added to the database, but it did not appear in Administration -> Flight Validator
I can find it however in Administration -> Manual Reports.
There I alter the valid status and their flight does not appear in Latest Flights or in their flight logbook.

My question is: How can I make this flight add to their hours and appear on the Latest Flights and their logbook on the website ?

After I got this complaint from pilots, I did myself a flight with Simacars charter...no problems at all and also I did a manual report...also not problems.
The pilot that had the problem however used to fly a flight far away from the region my virtual airlines operates.

Before I used to enter all flights manual. That worked perfectly, but took a long time, so I have been busy with programming a small tool that can add
flight schedules into the virtual airlines in no time. It creates a fleettypes_routes.sql and a routes.sql file. Then I import them with myphp and the flights appear.
There is however a problem. When I go to main menu, choose options and then hubs, my flights do not appear...
I was wondering how I can make these flights appear on the routemap.
Yes, I can go to the administration and then choose a flight and resubmit...but that is a bit much work with all these routes...so I was wondering if someone knows
how I can make these routes appear on the menu without I need to touch every time a submit button.

Thanks on forehand :)
